Only a couple of months ago, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, announced that Xiaomi would launch more than ten 5G phones in 2020. However, today, the CEO made a new statement. He said that all Xiaomi phones over CNY2,000 (roughly $285/€258/£221) would come with 5G support.
Jun said this during a keynote speech that was part of the annual China Mobile Global Partner Conference. He delivered the speech in Guangzhou, China.
According to the carrier’s Chairman, Yang Jie, the company has plans to add 70 million 5G users in 2020. In addition to this, Xiaomi also plans to expand the 5G application to more than 100 industries.
Currently, Xiaomi has only a couple of smartphones that support 5G. We have the Mi 9 Pro 5G (exclusive to China) and the Mi Mix 3 5G. There is also the Mi Mix Alpha (pretty much a prototype right now).
If Xiaomi’s plan is anything to go by, then we will likely get a 5G variant of the next Black Shark gaming smartphone. The company recently released the Black Shark 2 Pro with Snapdragon 855+ and 12GB RAM. A 5G smartphone with such features or even better will likely be well received.
