Reports have it that ASUS is currently working on an Android-powered gaming smartphone to be released under the Company’s Republic Of Gamers (ROG) brand. This would make it the first mobile device to do this.

Already, ASUS has used the ROG brand for PCs, but the brand has never been associated with a smartphone.

Not much is known about this alleged device as at now, as the source did not provide much information, and there is still a possibility that it will be released under the Company’s main ZenFone brand.

Gaming phones are not a new concept in the industry. There was Nokia’s N-Gage in 2003. The Razer Phone also came up in 2017. However, gaming phones have often struggled with keeping up and competing with their regular phone counterparts. This is partly because they require major design changes to accommodate their physical controls.

According to reports, ASUS is preparing to debut the ZenFone 5, ZenFone 5Z, ZenFone 5 Lite, and the ZenFone Max Pro M1, and these are expected to begin retailing in the first half of 2018. The gaming smartphone is expected to be a nice addition to these.

Xiaomi’s new subsidiary, Black Shark is also reportedly working on a gaming smartphone to be released in 2018.
