Apple seems ready to launch the iPhone SE 2, but there have been conflicting reports about when exactly the budget phone will be launched. Here’s everything you should know at the moment.
Obviously, the iPhone SE was a huge success for Apple, especially due to the fact that it was made affordable, starting from under £350.
However, after over two years, the iPhone SE seems long overdue and in need of a successor, hence, the new rumor of an update. According to a leak, this update will be called the iPhone SE (2018).
Not only has the apparent name been leaked, a number of leaks have also revealed some details about the look to expect.
In some renders revealed by case maker Olixar, we see a sleek phone featuring a beautiful all-screen design similar to the iPhone X.
If Apple is truly going the iPhone X way, then this may mean an end to the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the SE, with the company bringing the Face ID technology of the iPhone X to the new SE.
The new SE may be covered in glass like Apple’s new flagships. This would likely mean support for wireless charging.
Some of the other specs of the iPhone SE 2 are rumored to include 2GB of RAM, 12MP rear camera, a 1,700 mAh battery, and a waterproof build. These are in addition to many other specs that should be expected.
Concerning the launch date of this new device, there are conflicting reports, some of which suggest that it could be revealed next month at Apple’s WWDC which starts on June 4 in California.
The WWDC is usually mainly a software event, but Apple has been known to show off hardware as well. New iPads, MacBooks, and the HomePod speaker were some of the devices revealed at WWDC last year.
It might make sense to reveal the new SE at the WWDC, but some new reports suggest that fans may have to wait a little longer, claiming that Apple has not yet decided on a final design. If this is true, then, clearly, the device will not be revealed in two weeks’ time.
Already, Apple is thought to be revealing three new iPhones in the autumn including a giant iPhone XL which may come with a 6.5-inch screen. Now, there could be the addition of a fourth if the latest rumor about the SE 2 is correct.
