The Huawei P20 Pro is currently the only smartphone with a triple camera. But it appears that this will not be so for much longer.
According to new rumors, LG’s V40 ThinQ will also come with a triple camera setup. The rumors also have it that LG may arrange their own cameras differently.
Before the Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei already had an existing dual camera setup. The addition of a third sensor made the P20 Pro unique. The company simply used an RGB and monochrome array as the base of the triple camera, and enhanced it with a telephoto lens.
So, in essence, the Huawei P20 Pro’s triple camera setup involves a 40MP RGB lens, a 20MP monochrome lens, and a telephoto lens offering 3X optical zoom.
LG has been known to use a primary lens paired with super wide-angle lens for their flagships. This typically allows users to fit more objects in photos taken.
Now, in the case of the V40 ThinQ, the rumors suggest that a “super telephoto” lens will be added to the super wide-angle (ultrawide) lens. The telephoto lens will probably work the same way as that of the P20 Pro. This would mean that it offers 3X optical zoom as well.
Reports from ETNews have shown that there will be a 20MP, a 16MP and a 13MP sensor. However, the platform did not state which camera was which. We are of the opinion that the 20MP will be the primary shooter, and the 16MP the ultrawide lens. This would leave the 13MP for the telephoto lens.
In addition to the triple camera setup, rumor also has it that LG is coming up with 3D face scanning. However, instead of using the infrared technology used by Apple on the iPhone X, LG is trying something new. The company will use two front-facing cameras. This may not be as accurate as Apple’s Face ID though.
LG’s triple camera setup may mean that we already have a trend. Other smartphone manufacturers might be joining this train soon. In addition, the V40 ThinQ might be the first phone in the United States to enjoy this feature. This is because the Huawei P20 Pro seems not to have a place in the US, considering the spat between the US government and the company.
