MediaTek has officially fixed a date for the unveiling of its first 5G chip. The unveiling will be done at the MediaTek Summit. The gaming-centered Helio G90 was released in July and thereafter, the company shifted its attention to 5G in both the midrange and high-end segment.
The November 26 unveiling date is in line with plans by the company to release the first 5G chips which is based on Helio M70 coming to the market in the first quarter of 2020. The Chip, as seen in the promo pictures, is the MT6885Z (flagship-grade 7nm Silicon). MediaTeks plans to collaborate with partners like Oppo and Vivo.
Specs tipped for the MT6885 include Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 CPU cores, sub-6 GHz frequency support, third-generation AI processing engine and camera support of up to 80 MP and 4K 60fps video recording
A more affordable mid-range chipset expected to be release a year from now is likely to be named MT6973. Rumours say it should use Cortex-A76 cores and the same 7nm FinFET process. It is speculated that the chip will power smartphones around the 300$ price range.
