WhatsApp recently brought the Fingerprint Lock feature to Android. This comes after it has been available on iOS for quite some time. The feature is a security layer to protect your chats and conversations. However, it does not prevent WhatsApp calls from coming through.

Setting WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock up on android is very straightforward. You can easily turn the feature on or off by a simple toggle in WhatsApp Settings. So, you may be asking yourself, how can I enable WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock on my Android phone? Here is the step-by-step process.

Step 7

Confirm fingerprint. When you toggle on “Unlock with fingerprint”, the app prompts you to confirm your fingerprint. You do this by touching the fingerprint sensor on your device. You can just select “CANCEL” instead if you do not want to go ahead with the process.

Step 8

After confirming your fingerprint, the “Fingerprint lock” page comes up with new options. Under the “Automatically lock” option, select how long you want it to take for WhatsApp to automatically lock on your device. For now, there are three options. But what do the options mean?

  • Immediately: Selecting this option will make sure that WhatsApp locks every time you minimize it.
  • After 1 minute: With this option, the Fingerprint Lock feature automatically kicks in after every one minute. This means that if you minimize or close WhatsApp within one minute of your last unlock, you will not have to unlock it again.
  • After 30 minutes: This option works pretty much the same way as the “After 1 minute” option. The only difference is that every unlock action here is active for thirty minutes.

Step 9

Choose whether to show content in notifications or not. This is the final option on the “Fingerprint lock” page. If you toggle this option on, you will be able to preview sender and message text inside new message notifications. If you toggle it off, then you will only see message count inside the message notifications.

How to disable WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock on Android

To disable Fingerprint Lock on WhatsApp for Android, simply follow steps 1 to 6 above. On Step 6, toggle off the “Unlock with fingerprint” option. Once you do this, other options on the page will disappear, and Fingerprint Lock will be deactivated.

You can download WhatsApp on the Google Play Store.
