At the IFA 2018 event in Berlin last Friday, Honor teased the Honor Magic 2, a device that will come with the slide-out selfie camera module. As if in response to this tease, Xiaomi also teased the upcoming Mi Mix 3. Xiaomi’s President, Lin Bin, shared the first official image of the device on Weibo. The image shows a strikingly similar look to the Honor Magic 2, and also appears to have the same slide-out front camera system.
Bin captioned the image, “Sorry, they look alike. We’re launching in October.”, suggesting that it was truly in response to Honor’s tease.
The image revealed that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is a true-blue all screen smartphone. It has a back panel that slides up to reveal the front cameras, what looks like a selfie flash, and an earpiece. Also noticeable is the fact that the chin that was a signature for the Mi Mix series is absent, unlike what is obtained in the Mi Mix 2.
The sliding mechanism of the panel will work manually, that much we know. But the post didn’t exactly reveal much else about this upcoming smartphone.
Before now though, a number of leaks have surfaced about the Mi Mix 3. Those leaks showed that it will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. It will also come in two RAM and internal storage variants – a 6GB RAM/64GB internal storage variant and an 8GB RAM/256GB internal storage variant. On the display side, the phone is expected to feature an AMOLED panel with 2k screen resolution.
So, according to Bin’s post, we are to expect the Mi Mix 3 in October. The company’s President also revealed that the brand would go to “large-scale retail” by the end of October. What this means for global users is that it might not be long before the device becomes available to everyone.
